🚫 No eating: Chocolate Milk (for dogs)
🧪 Triple Toxic & Harmful Components
- Cocoa powder – contains theobromine and caffeine
- Milk – contains lactose
- Sugar – added sweetener and thickeners
⚠️ How Each Component Harms Dogs
☕ Cocoa powder toxicity
- Theobromine and caffeine directly poison the central nervous system and heart.
- The half‑life of theobromine in dogs is as long as 17.5 hours → slow elimination → rapid accumulation to toxic levels.
🥛 Milk (lactose)
- Causes lactose intolerance symptoms → diarrhea and gastrointestinal upset.
🍬 Sugar
- High sugar content stimulates the pancreas → risk of pancreatitis and blood sugar spikes.
The three‑pronged attack increases the overall risk of poisoning significantly.
📦 Lethal Dose
A tiny 200ml box of chocolate milk is enough to make a dog sick.
It is right not to eat – absolutely forbidden.
🆘 Emergency Treatment (if ingestion occurs)
Treatment should be based on toxicological symptoms:
- Induce vomiting and gastric lavage (stomach washing) if within 2 hours.
- Correct arrhythmia – use lidocaine as an antiarrhythmic drug.
- Control epilepsy/seizures with appropriate anticonvulsants (e.g., diazepam or phenobarbital).
- Supportive care: IV fluids, monitor heart and kidneys.
🧴 Storage Warning
Because chocolate milk is delicious and sweet, dogs are very likely to take big sips if left unattended.
Must be stored better – far out of your dog’s reach, in sealed containers.
🐶 Chocolate milk is not a treat – it’s a veterinary emergency waiting to happen. Keep it away from your dog at all times.
